Resin Bound Driveways
Resin-bound driveways give a smooth, contemporary finish. Natural aggregates are mixed with a clear resin and trowelled onto a prepared base to create a seamless surface with no loose stones. Laid on a permeable base, the finish lets rainwater drain through. If it is laid over an existing impermeable surface such as old tarmac or concrete, the water has to be directed somewhere else, so ask the installer how drainage will work.
Why Choose Resin Bound?
- Permeable when laid on a permeable base
- Smooth surface with no loose stones
- UV-stable resins are designed to resist yellowing
- Wide range of natural aggregate colour blends
- Ask which resin system the installer uses and what guarantee comes with it

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between resin bound and resin bonded?
Resin-bound surfaces mix the aggregate with the resin before laying, producing a smooth, porous finish. Resin-bonded surfaces spread resin onto an existing base and scatter aggregate on top, leaving a textured finish that is not permeable, and loose stones can come away over time. Resin bonded is usually cheaper, but resin bound is the more common choice for driveways.
How long does a resin-bound driveway last?
UK cost guides commonly quote around 20 to 25 years for a resin-bound driveway that has been installed correctly. Regular sweeping, an occasional wash and dealing with any moss or weeds on the surface help it last.
